It would be tempting to say the vibes couldn’t get any better, but as the forthcoming launch of Magic Eden’s ME token and the announcement of Pudgy Penguins’ PENGU token suggest — in the short-term — things can only get better*, especially if the long-rumored and long-hoped-for Open Sea token is inbound. 🙏

(* Obvs things can get worse, but when in Rome etc.)

Still — as you should know by now — I’m not about the vibes. Just show me the data.

Of course, token price is not the only measure of success, but with three weeks of 2024 to go, the token price of half of the top blockchain games in terms of marketcap remains down on the year.

Once again, the rising tide has not floated all boats, let alone floating all boats equally.

Looking at more data, this week I tracked 2024’s less-than-impressive blockchain game investment trends on Monday, before tackling the most popular blockchain games on Wednesday.

Again, while there are some bright spots, it seems that sustaining audiences over a period of months and years remains difficult, especially given the most regular short-term growth playbook is incentivization by token airdrops.

Ronin remains best at this!

More data came in the form of my estimate that Mythical Games’ NFL Rivals has now surpassed $10 million of lifetime trading volume.

After all, why would Mythical spend a lot of money getting the official license for its forthcoming soccer title FIFA Rivals if its underlying economic model wasn’t working?

More future gaming news came with the announcement that CCP Games’ is launching the closed alpha server for its blockchain sandbox PC game EVE Frontier next week.

You can prepare for the action by buying access from $30, perhaps even using my referral code [8JL3Q2AB].
