Axie Infinity: Homeland is one of the games I’m playing the most, so despite complaints about it from some corners of the Axie-verse, I’m happy to see Sky Mavis continue to build out what remains a fairly complex project, albeit one that’s in its early stages.
In terms of headline news, the announcement that you can now start earning AXP (Axie experience points) within Homeland is not a major one. I think it is, however, significant as this is the first time players’ activity within Homeland feeds directly into the ecosystem, (and vice versa).
Previously you could only earn AXP by playing the Axie Infinity: Origins battler, which isn’t something I’m particularly interested to do. As for AXP, it allows you to level up your Axie NFTs, which is part of Sky Mavis’ longterm plan to make these into dynamic assets, which are valued for what they have become over time during gameplay, not just for what they were when minted.
In turn, the option to earn AXP has been built on top of the recent feature that allowed players to import their Axie NFTs onto their Homeland base for the first time. The number of Axies you can have active depends on your base’s level. At level three, I can bring five Axies into each of my lands, and this number increases as I level up.
The amount of AXP each NFT earns depends on the tasks they do and is capped at 10,000 AXP per day, although I fear this level of earning will be a stretch goal for me.
Of course, it doesn’t take a genius to consider that over time, the level of each Axie and even its type and attributes might also boost certain farming or crafting activities in Homeland, providing utility that is orthogonal to that currently required in the battler game.
If nothing else, by the time I get to level five in Homeland and can import 32 Axies per land, I’m going to have to buy some more.
And — in this way and however slowly — it’s clear Sky Mavis is gearing up an ecosystem in which the baseline Axie characters can be plugged into different games, which will encourage active players to own — and breed — large collections of Axie, each possessing different abilities and attributes.
Maybe you should dig out those Axies you bought in 2021 and start playing a new game?

Highly Anticipated news
I’ve always been a big fan of the Cyberbrokers’ NFT collection; minted on day one, and involved in its mech components meta-game during 2023 etc so it’s good to get some details about its Paradigm Found experience, which is going live in March.
Labelled as F2P browser-based idle MMORPG, which will offer a mix of storytelling, strategy and crafting accessed via text-based missions, it’s going to offer a basic web2 version for all with an enhanced web3 version for NFT holders.
Interesting twists promised include “travel timing between locations, crowd-betting, custom avatars etc”, but more generally the team behind the project is top-notch and highly experienced so I’m really looking forward to see what they have been creating.
