Blockchain games were 21% of $38 billion crypto investment total in 2022
Comparing Jon Research with Messari Research
Not seeking to deepen my existing obsession, but it’s always nice to cross-reference my data so today’s task has been to compare my 2022 investment totals for the blockchain game and metaverse sector against Messari Research’s overall crypto consideration.
I think the result is a pretty reasonable sanity check.
For 2022, my total was $8.1 billion compared to Messari’s $37.7 billion for all investments into crypto.
That means blockchain gaming and metaverse accounted for about 21% of the total value, although on a monthly basis this varied from a low of 17% in February to a high of 49% in August.
The latter was thanks to the $200 million raise from Limit Break (DigiDaigaku).
While I wouldn’t place too much significance on the trend, it is worth noting that gaming was over-indexed in the second half of the year — accounting for around 40% of all crypto funding in three of those six months or 29% over the period (versus an average of 20% for the first six months of 2022).
