Another Wednesday, another episode of Blockchain Gaming World is out.
Ep #167 is a double-header with Yield Guild Games’ Gabby Dizon — 4th time on the show — and Shi Khai Wei from LongHash, which recently invested in YGG.
The discussion ranged across the past and the future of guilds, which were big in 2021 and 2022, with the rise of Axie Infinity, but which have withered during the bear years.
But guilds are making a comeback, both in terms of the new trend for social farming and quests, and more specifically in the rise of Pixels; a process YGG has been a key part of.
We also cover whether guilds are becoming web3 ad networks.
“I would like to think of ourselves as a very human-centric ad network, someone who values individuals and cares about them not as a faceless daily active user, but someone who has a reputation, who’s part of a group, who likes something, who has certain skills. That’s what the future of ad networks should be, is valuing people for who they are and what they’ve done,” Dizon argues.

MOCA IDO news
Mocaverse has announced the results of its MOCA token IDO. Over $29 million was pledged in hopes of a share of $5 million-worth of tokens, with 6,330 wallets from a total of 17,000 KYCed users getting some amount of MOCA. (For the record and for various reasons, I didn’t bother.)
The token was sold at the price of $0.03938, giving a fully diluted value of $350 million, which is pretty low. I’d expect this to pop pretty heavily whenever the token goes live on exchanges in the coming days. Obviously not investment advice.
Next Big Thing news
I’ve been playing fully onchain game Pirate Nation since I had Amitt Mahajan, the CEO of developer Proof of Play, on the podcast back in episode #144 (October 2023). As is now the way of things, it launched its own Arbitrum-based Apex blockchain a couple of months ago and is building up the marketing for its token launch via an engagement quest — labelled Booty — both inside and external to the game.
It’s particularly accelerated this week as Proof of Play is cross-promoting the quests to various other gaming community, which are now being ranked on a leaderboard. Xterio’s Overworld is currently winning, ahead of Spellborne, followed by Pixelmon and Wildcard.
Other involved communities include Chinese guild Chain Challenger, WolvesDAO, Paladins DAO, San Fran Tokyo and KOL Yellow Panther.
The results of this are something I’ll be keeping an eye on via the Proof of Play block explorer.
And if anyone wants to try it out, you can use my referral code, at least until its 12 keys are used up.
