Episode 155 of the Blockchain Gaming World podcast is now live and I have to say it’s the one I enjoyed the most.
There are two reasons.
One is that as well as talking to Mythical Games CEO John Linden about blockchain games since 2018, I’ve also played its games at some depth so in this case I really do know what I’m talking about.
Hopefully that’s always the case but it’s certainly the case this time.
The second — more important — reason is that Linden really knows what he’s talking about too. I haven’t always agreed with what Mythical Games has done but Linden has been making highly successful games for over two decades.
And despite some mis-steps along the web3 way, I now consider Mythical Games’ games and the Polkadot-based Mythos blockchain and the Mythos Foundation — which it has created as a separate entity — to be amongst the top blockchain game projects.
After all, Mythical was ranked in the top position in BlockchainGamer.biz’s Top 50 Blockchain Games Companies for 2024.
A key reason is the way Mythical has aggressively innovated so it can leverage official app stores as a primary distribution platform. As Linden explains in the interview, this has required working closely with Apple and Google, ensuring they understand and are happy with what Mythical’s doing, as well as demonstrating that adding NFTs to games does not cannabalize IAPs but actually increases overall spending.
Similarly, it’s also worth noting that Mythical claims 20% of the revenue it generates from NFL Rivals comes from players trading NFTs. Linden says that sort of margin is something that’s starting to interest traditional game companies too, who are now considering bringing their web2 games to Mythos for such benefits.

More Games On Ronin news
Sky Mavis has announced it’s partnered with Japanese dev GMonsters — previously GC Turbo, who worked on Pokemon Medallion — and IP holder Mixi to create games based on the Fight League IP on the Ronin blockchain.
In total, three games are planned:
Fight League Survivor — a rogue-like action game with user-generated levels,
Fight League Medallion — a TCG, and
Fight League Missions — an action-RPG.
Fight League Survivor will be released first with a closed beta test planned in Q1 2024 and an open beta in Q2. There will also be an NFT sale of Survivor Genesis fighters. Presumably these characters will be inter-operable across all three games.
