First week of Trump trading
Doesn't do much for gaming tokens though
The week started off in crypto land with plenty of good vibes as the prices of most things* popped very pleasantly.
*Not so much game tokens though.
This is their (pretty mixed) performance over the past six weeks, and it’s also worth pointing out that only five of these tokens have seen a price increase during 2024 YTD.
Instead the real speculative velocity has — once again — been with memecoins, notably:
the Trump-adjacent PNUT — up 1,540% this week,
Ethereum’s top meme PEPE — up 112%,
Elon’s fave DOGE — up 86%,
plus genAI-marketed GOAT is now over $1 billion marketcap.
Still, in the current era of Irrational Exuberance, I imagine we are going to see many more very odd and perhaps wonderful things too.
More substantial trends can be found in Game7’s State of Web3 Gaming Report for 2024, which was released yesterday.
Of course, I had some caveats, the main one being that the report is technically only covering the first nine months of 2024. Also I wasn’t sure about its data when it came to investment, with Game7’s figures seeming too high.
But the report is very good at covering the announcement of new blockchains, reckoning that an amazing 67 gaming-specific blockchains were announced in 2024, out of a total of 104 new blockchains.

Finally, it was interesting to see top esports outfit Team Liquid relaunching its fan engagement platform on the Sui blockchain.
Called MyBlue and based around Team Liquid’s Blue mascot, a key element is the soulbound avatar that fans are given. As they complete tasks, various digital items are unlocked, which are then used to customize your avatar.
